  BRAZIL

The Brazil national football team (Portuguese: Seleção Brasileira) represents Brazil in international football and is controlled by the Brazil Football Confederation (Portuguese: Confederação Brasileira de Futebol or CBF), the governing body for football in Brazil.

The CBF was founded in 1914, became a member of CONMEBOL in 1916, and a member of FIFA in 1923. Although football made its debut in Brazil in 1894, the CBF was founded in 1914, the current format for the Campeonato Brasileiro was only established in 1959. The 1959 Taça Brasil was the inaugural season of the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A. The first final was contested by Santos Futebol Clube and Esporte Clube Bahia, known familiarly as Bahia. The most popular team in the Northeast of Brazil, Bahia, won the title.

Brazil is the most successful national football team in the history of the World Cup, with five championships. The Brazilian are the only team to have won five World Cups in four different continents; once in Europe (1958 Sweden), once in South America (1962 Chile), twice in North America (1970 Mexico and 1994 United States) and once in Asia (2002 Korea/Japan). The Brazilians also hold the record for being the only team in the world that has participated in all world cups.

They share with FranceArgentina and Germany the record to have won the three most important men's football titles recognized by FIFA: the World Cup, the Confederations Cup, and the Olympic tournament.
