The Costa Rica national football team (Spanish:  Selección de Fútbol de Costa Rica) represents Costa Rica in international football and is controlled by the Costa Rican Football Federation (Spanish:  Federación Costarricense de Fútbol, FEDEFUTBOL), the governing body for football in Costa Rica.

The FEDEFUTBOL was founded in1921, became a member of FIFA in 1927, and a member of CONCACAF in 1962. Football in Costa Rica began circa 1894-1896, when British businessmen arrived in the country to install the tram and joined here with Costa Ricans who had been in England pursuing his studies, almost all of them children of coffee growers that sent the product to markets in London. The first liga (Liga Nacional de Fútbol) was created by 7 clubs: Liga Deportiva Alajuelense, Club Sport Cartaginés, Club Sport Herediano, Club Sport La Libertad, Sociedad Gimnástica Española de San José, Club Sport La Unión de Tres Ríos and Sociedad Gimnástica Limonense. Since then, Costs Rica's top clubs have been Deportivo Saprissa with 29 championships, LD Alajuelense with 28, and CS Herediano with 23.

Costa Rica is one of the most successful football team in North America, Central America and the Caribbean, the area commonly known as CONCACAF. The Costa Ricans (Ticos) have won the CONCACAF Gold Cup a record 3 times.
