GERMANY
The Germany national football team (German: Die deutsche Fußballnationalmannschaft) represents Germany in international football and is controlled by the German Football Association (German: Deutscher Fußball-Bund, DFB), the governing body for football in Germany.
The DFB was founded in Leipzig in 1900, became a member of FIFA in 1904, and a member of UEFA in 1954. The first recognized national championship match was hosted by Hamburg club Altona 93, in 1903, in which VfB Leipzig defeated DFC Prag 7–2. When the DFB was founded, there were just 86 clubs. By 2010, that number of clubs had risen to 26,000 with 6.7 million members. The DFB is one of UEFA's largest member associations in terms of membership.
Germany is the second most successful national team in the history of the World Cup, only behind Brazil. The Germans have won four World Cup title (1954 , 1974 , 1990 , and 2014 ), and also three UEFA European Championships (1972, 1980, and 1996).
They share with France , Argentina and Brazil the record to have won the three most important men's football titles recognized by FIFA: the World Cup, the Confederations Cup, and the Olympic tournament.
