Netherlands national football team (Dutch: Nederlands nationaal voetbalelftal) represents Netherlands in international football and is controlled by the Royal Dutch Football Association (Dutch: Koninklijke Nederlandse Voetbalbond, KNVB), the governing body for football in Netherlands.

The KNVB was founded in 1889, is a member of the FIFA since 1904, and also a member of the UEFA since 1954. The Netherlands Football League Championship was the first Dutch national football championship. The league ran from 1888–1956. The first champion of the amateur era was VV Concordia in 1898. The Eredivisie, the highest football league in the Netherlands was inaugurated in 1956, two years after the start of professional football in the Netherlands. The 1956/57 season was the first in its history. It was contested by 18 teams, and AFC Ajax won the title. Fortuna 54 was the runner up.

Netherlands is one of the most successful teams in Europe. Dutch hold the record for having played three World Cup finals (1974, 1978, and 2010) without having won any. Dutch won one UEFA European Championships (1988).
