ECUADOR
The Ecuador national football team (Spanish: Selección de Fútbol de Ecuador) represents Ecuador in international football and is controlled by the Ecuadorian Football Federation (Spanish: Federación Ecuatoriana de Fútbol, FEF), the governing body for football in Ecuador.
The FEF was founded in 1925, became a member of FIFA in 1926, and a member of CONMEBOL in 1927. Football in Ecuador began around 1925. It was amateur football until 1950 when the Guayas Football Association (Spanish: Asociación de Fútbol del Guayas) turned professional and held its first professional tournament for Guayaquil’s clubs. The first champion was Rio Guayas in 1951. The tournament changed in 1957 when a national football league was organized. Emelec won the tournament and became the first national champions of football in Ecuador. Since 1957, Ecuador's top clubs have been Barcelona Sporting Club with 14 championships, El Nacional with 13, and Emelec and LDU Quito both with 10.
Ecuador is one of the football teams in South America. The Ecuadorians have not got any major title so far. They are of course one of three countries in South America to not win the Copa América. However, they have a new talented golden generation that will surely give much to talk about in the coming years.
